City Of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

City Of Ashes (Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare.
Publisher: Simon Pulse.
Pages: 453.
CONTAINS CITY OF BONES SPOILERS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

A murderer is loose in New York City ...

... and the victims are Downworlder children. Clary Fray and her fellow Shadowhunters have a strong suspicion that Valentine, Clary's father, may be behind the killings. But if he is the murderer, then what's his true motive? To make matters worse, the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, has been stolen, and the mysterious Inquisitor has arrived to investigate, with his eyes vigilantly targeted on Clary's brother, Jace.

Clary will need to face some terrifying demons and even more terrifying family decisions. No one said that the life of a Shadowhunter would be easy.

City Of Ashes was a perfect second installment to the exhilarating Mortal Instrument series. Though City Of Bones captured me with a higher intensity, I loved every minute of Ashes just the same.

The story continues with Clary’s difficult search for her mother, while she battles new enemies and her forbidden feelings for Jace, who has unexpectedly turned out to be her older brother. The emotions and drama of the characters played a much bigger part in this one, making it much more personal than Bones. Whether it was a frowned-upon-by-society kind of romance, wrongful accusations or even sexuality .. Cassandra Clare did a great job of making those issues just as scary as demons and monsters that Shadowhunters kill.

Joining the original cast of characters were a few newcomers, friends and enemies alike. And joining the old plot came a handful of twists and turns that I never saw coming. The Mortal Instruments series is getting away with things that normal young adult books can’t pull off, and I think that’s why I love it so much so far.

Overall, if you’ve read the first book, I demand that you get off your butt and go pick up a copy of this now. You definitely won’t be disappointed! And while you’re at it, get the third book, City Of Glass, as well because the ending in City Of Ashes will have you dying for more!

  1. I love these books so much! Lol, let's make a deal: If either of us ends up with an ARC of CoFA, we read and then lend? ;D I'm dying for more! (SPOILER ALERT: Speaking of the forbidden romance: I loved the part of this book in the Seelie (sp) Court.)

  2. I thought the books in this series just got progressively better. The first one I was kinda "meh" about but wanted to know more about Clary and Jase. So I read this one, which I thought far surpassed the first. The last one is, again, even better than this one! Looking forward to your review of it!

  3. I love this series! My favorite character of all had to be Jace (he's freakin' hilarious!)

Did you know that she's writing a 4th book (it's gonna be about Simon) ?
