Author Interview & Blog Tour: Emma Michaels

I recently had the chance to interview Emma Michaels, author of the upcoming novel The Thirteenth Chime. Unfortunately, I haven't read the novel yet. But I did get to talk to the author about some other cool stuff! Check out the interview and don't forget to get yourself a copy of The Thirteenth Chime on August 14th!

About The Thirteenth Chime:

No one knew of its existence until it was removed from the attic upstairs.

In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives.

The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge.

With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago.

Hatred never dies.

1. You’re a book reviewer turned author, so you know how much dedication and honesty goes into writing reviews. Is it nerve-wracking being on the other side of the review, writing the actual book instead of writing the opinion?
Yes, it really is nerve-wracking! I have been fortunate enough to get to know many of the reviewers on blogger and I know they have good taste and that they are honest in their feelings. As this is my debut novel, it is my honest hope that my fellow bloggers will love my book! Since I started blogging I have gotten to read so many amazing new books and they have really inspired me to keep going and have helped my love for novels grow. I hope that my book can add to that for my fellow bloggers and that they will enjoy the originality and very human characters.

2. Describe your publishing journey so far. Are there any memorable, exciting moments?
The journey at first was definitely difficult. I dealt with over a hundred rejections from agents before I took the plunge and submitted directly to publishers. The moment I began sending out and receiving interest was wonderful. The day I received a welcome letter along with an acceptance notice was just so exciting! With Bokheim Publishing and all of my fellow bloggers I really believe this novel could become something amazing and that together we can get the word out and possibly even one day accomplish my goal of making it to the New York Times Best Sellers List! I can't do it without you!!!!

3. If you could pick any character from any novel and drop them into your writing, who would it be and what would you make him/her do?
Hmm... well you said one, but if I could have Fred and George Weasley (after all, they are twins so you can't have one without the other) from Harry Potter, I would adore having those two placed with David and seeing what kind of mischief they could all get into in the story.

4. A lot of writers have to have some kind of snack or beverage or music to keep them motivated. Do you have any “must haves” when it comes to sitting down and writing?
Chocolate! I use it as my reward for a job well done. I will set page goals and every time I reach them I can have some. If it is just a chocolate chip then it is per page, candy bars are per every five to twenty pages depending on it there is only one of them or not. lol.

5. Can you give us a tiny, exclusive sneak peek of The Thirteenth Chime?
Here is a new/second teaser:

Destiny has finally found the life that she has always wanted.

She is about to finish college, has a fiancé that loves her, and a great summer on the West Coast planned with her friend, Stephanie.

But her world is turned upside down when an antique clock mysteriously chimes thirteen times and someone attacks them, sending Stephanie and her mother to the hospital.

Alone, and without any help from the police, Destiny has no choice but to turn to the one man she had left behind a year ago - her ex-boyfriend, David.

Together, they must solve the riddle of the thirteenth chime before the clock strikes thirteen again.

Yet as they face their own past and hearts, a trap over half a century old is waiting for them to become its prey.

For revenge, fifty years is never too long…

Thanks for your time, Emma. The book sounds incredible!
Thank you so much for having me! Every one who helps spread the word is bringing all of us close to our goal!!! It is wonderful to get to share my journey with bloggers like you and our amazing followers and readers!
