Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything--including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice? This is another one of those books that manages to magnificently execute everything we love in paranormal novels; werewolves, a suspenseful mystery, a love triangle and kick-ass characters that blend together to make Nightshade a must-read.
After reading Raised By Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, I had been severely craving another great werewolf book that focuses on packs and the characters within them. I was so excited to read that not only did Nightshade have packs, two of its main characters were alphas; in command of their packs. And while the story is a bit more complex than I’m making it out to be, it was something that gave the characters an awesome fierceness and I think it really makes Nightshade stand out from the others.
The story is very gripping and very sexy, like the fan-yourself-off kind of sexy. Although this is half romance, it read very much like a mystery novel. And while I enjoyed reading about Ren and Shay, the gorgeous boys both fighting for Calla’s heart, it was awesome to see that Andrea Cremer didn’t stray from the real story too much, even when the romance and mystery surprisingly intertwined towards the end.
Overall, I really enjoyed Nightshade. With intense mystery, kick-ass action and steamy scenes that will leave you blushing, it’s perfect for any paranormal fan. (And it’s got a pretty high creep factor; a great Halloween read!)
P.S - TEAM REN FTW.
