Movie News: The Host

If you aren't already aware, Stephenie Meyer's (author of the Twilight series) book The Host is being adapted into a movie. I've had the book sitting on my shelf since the very first day it released in 2008 and I've yet to read it, but I've heard amazing things about it. It's a very long, thick book and I've been waiting for my reading schedule to die down before I dive into it (which, knowing me, would be a few more years) but after the casting news that was announced today, I plan to read as soon as possible.

Playing Melanie/Wanderer: Saoirse Ronan

Playing Jared: Max Irons (OMG MY FAVORITE ACTOR EVARRRR)

And playing Ian: Jake Abel

I love this cast. Especially Max Irons (if you know me, you know I've had an unhealthy obsession with him for yearsss) I've seen several movies with each of them and I know they're fantastic actors. I need to finally get around to reading this!

If you've read The Host, what do you think of this cast? Yay/nay? Thoughts?

  1. Can I just say how happy I am that I'm not the only one who bought this book the week it came out but haven't read it yet?! I thought it was the only one!! And I've heard good things from blogger friends as well, so I really want to make time to read it.

    Love this cast!

  2. I was so put off by the Twilight series that I'll never read another Meyer book again. I've heard mixed reviews on this one; some people love it, and some say it's full of sexist messages and bad writing. Kinda like the Twilight series, I guess...

  3. Ashley - Nope, you're definitely not alone! I was so excited when I bought it from the store, but after I took it home and put it on my shelf, it hasn't been touched since! Ha!

La Coccinelle - I've heard from most people it's better than Twilight. It's from the same author so if you hated Twilight, I probably wouldn't recommend reading this one. But I didn't think Twilight was full of any sexist messages and I don't think the writing was that bad, so I think I'm pretty qualified to enjoy it! :)

  5. Aaah! I LOOOOVE this book - I have the hardcover and the paperback! You need to read it. Like yesterday. ;)

And I love the cast; the only one I'm sort of unsure about is Jake Abel, but we'll see, I might be more sure after the movie!

I've been waiting for this movie since before I read the book, lol!

  6. I enjoyed this book, but it did take me awhile to get into it. I found the beginning a bit slow and to be honest a bit confusing. Once I got into it tho I really did enjoy it. Read it!

  7. READ IT! SOON!

It does start out kind of confusing, but it does make sense in the end. I loved this book.

  9. No. This cast is not good at all. I've read The Host several times since it was released, and this just isn't working in my head.. o.o

    In my head:
    Melanie - Sophia Bush
    Ian - Ian Somerhalders

THAT'S NOT OKAY! I don't have any problems with the actors in general, I though Max Irons was very good in Red Riding Hood, and Jake Abel was quite good in Supernatural season 5... but they just don't fit the characters of The Host in my opinion.

  10. Hmmm. I read and loved The Host. I have never seen any of these actors in any movies though, so I can't say anything about their acting skills. I hope they are good, that's all I can say.

The actor who plays Ian, though, is the only one I don't really think "looks" like Ian.

  11. AHHHH!! Max Irons!! Oooo. Sorry I'll pull myself together. It's been rumored for awhile that Saoirse would be Melanie and I think that's a great choice!

You must read the book asap! Maybe since they are getting closer to making the movie Stephenie Meyer will write book 2!

  12. I'm not really here nor there about the dudes, but Saoirse!!! She's definitely one of my favorite actresses :D
The book was seriously awesome too. I started reading it before I knew it was the same author as Twilight and I super loved it. I didn't realize it was an adult novel until a couple months ago either :P
